Actual respect mean to understand that every living being is an eternal spirit soul and the only difference between myself or them is the outer covering or the body or vehicle for this material world. When we realize that God (also known as Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu, Rama, Elohim, etc.) is situated within the heart of every living being and we are all his children then we can give respect. We may not like ones behavior or actions or words, but we can realize one is just a fallen conditioned soul conditioned by their circumstances due to their karma (reactions due to their previous actions) We may not know what someone has endured in this life and why or how they became the way they did. So we can respect their higher self beyond all the garbage. We can respect a poisonous snake by not messing with it. We can respect people and all living beings by not exploiting them. The common way of respect in India is to put the hands in a prayer position and slightly bow the head towards others. Some say Namaste ( I worship the God in you and that we are all his children) acknowledging God is in their heart as Suprersoul or Holy spirit. believing someone has principles even if you disagree with them. I lose respect for someone when they give up their principles at the first sign of a problem.
