That is what I am looking for, I just bought a linksys WRT54GS wireless router, thinking I would be able to have it in my room with my systems, but from there it could not give an internet connection to my ps3 or wii. It only worked when I took it to my computer and hooked it up to my modem. But since it is farther away, the signal is weak, so my questions are:

-are there any routers that can connect wirelessly to an internet modem?
-Can my Linksys WRT54GS router wirelessly connect with my modem?

I personally used this, the answer to your gaming question is, yes it can connect.

For your modem connection, no it can't connect through "WIRELESS", you need an Ethernet cable to connect the modem into the router. The router needs a source of internet connection as it gives off connection, not to replace the modem.

Well, sort of.
Your wrt54g will not connect to your modem wirelessly, because very likely your modem has no 802.11 capacity (that's the wireless) You need to go by cabl;e from your modem to your WRT54g, but that cable can be 100 feet long if you want.

You should be able to light up a whole normal sized house with a single wrt, BUT you need to locate it centrally, and you need to put it up high.

Other options:
You canh get high gain antennae for the WRT54G, but they cost a small fortune.
BGefore you do that, you would maybe want to put your money in to a repeater, for gaming it will add to your ping by a few milliseconds.

I think your best bet is to string a longer cable to the WRT54G and put it somewhere where it can do it's job.

no...it has to be hard wired to a modem or else it won't get a signal to broadcast....it goes like this.....modem> wireless router> wireless router hard wired to a PC.....wireless signal sent out.......for maximum broadcast distance get a wireless router with MIMO (media in/ media out)
