to have a period lasting 13 days? I still have my period and it's been 13 days of some heavy and moderate bleeding. Should I be concerned or is this normal? I haven't had a period for a little over a year and a half because of pregnancy and breastfeeding.

I'm curious if others have also experienced something like this?

I'm not spotting, it's moderate bleeding

I don't believe I have any clotting. Just constant bleeding. I don't feel horribly sick or anything. I just am really annoyed because of the length and wondering if it is normal.

Yes it can be normal. I would see how the say next 2 are before seeking medical advice. All women are different. However if you start getting large clots, severe pain, then I would go and see a doctor just to be safe.

I was once told that a period lasting over 10 days is a cause for concern. Are you having clotting?
I'm surprised that you went 18 months without a period.
At your ob/gyns, is there a phone nurse? If so, give her a call and ask her if this is something to be concerned about.
But, before you call, make a list of exactly the symptoms. How heavy is the bleeding, the color of the blood, how often you soak a pad or a tampon, how many days, how long you went since your last period. Then ask her if you should be seen by a doctor.

My periods were very heavy (filling more than a pad an hour which is supposed to mean you need to go to the ER) when I got them back, but they didn't last longer than a "normal" period. About 5 days I think.
I would probably be getting concerned, though I can't for the life of me think of what would cause it?

Breast feeding discourages ovulation, so it's pretty normal for the periods to restart when you stop breast feeding.
A 13 day period is a bit long, so I'd be a little concerned, especially if you're discharging large clots.
If it continues you should see a doctor.

Everybody is different, but after I stopped breastfeeding, my period was a bit heavier, but it didn't last any longer than it did prior to my being pregnant.
I would contact your OB/GYN to be sure.
Take care

chances are that your period ended and this is what they call 'spotting' which can make it seem like your period lasts for up to two weeks, even with moderate flow. it's ok to be irregular, but i'd talk to your doctor, even if it ends just before two weeks.

oh yes.....and you probably won't find a doctor who would even have a test to see if it wasn't. If you are EXTREMELY unusually drained, i.e., over sleeping or falling asleep when you shouldn't then I'd go and REALLY complain.......you could have bleeding from another problem

Yes and no... See your doctor, it should not last for that long but it is normal for it to return.

I would just relax because the body has to reallign everything after you've had a kid.
