Where is the reference point when you read a sign saying that Sydney is at 20km? Is it the GPO? Is it the same reference point for a sign when you just leave Brisbane to Sydney?

The reference point is the GPO in Martin Place in Sydney. The GPO is the reference point in each capital city.
