Let's make something clear.
To find any percentage, you take that number, divide by 100 and then multiply by the total number. IE.
Find 65% of 70.
You divide 65 by 100, which = 0.65
Then you multiply by the total number, which in this case is 70.
So 0.65 x 70= 45.5
Now onto the first problem.
Jordan,Casey, and Michelle are having lunch. Their bill comes to $38.05. Jordan's meal is 43% of the bill,Casey's is 27% and Michelle is 30%. How much does each person owe?
Jordan: 43% of 38.05
43/100= 0.43
0.43 x 38.05= 16.36$
Casey: 27% of 38.05
27/100= 0.27
0.27 x 38.05= 10.28$
Michel: 30% of 38.05
30/100= 0.30
0.30 x 38.05= 11.41$
Mr and Ms Key went out to dinner. Their bill was 48.93 they want to leave a 20% tip. How much do they leave?
20% OF 48.93
20/100= 0.20
0.20 X 48.93= 9.79$
They leave 9.79$ or 9$ and 79 cents.
Ann bought a pair of jeans that costs 27.99,a sweater that costs 32.99, and a belt that cost 11.99. The store is having a 15% off sale. How much did Ann pay?
A pair of jeans costs 27.99. We want 15% of that, so:
15% of 27.99
15/100= 0.15
0.15 x 27.99= 4.20$
So take off 4.20 from the initial price of 27.99.
27.99- 4.20= 23.79$ .She had to pay 23.79 for the jeans.
A sweater of 32.99$. 15% of that.
15/100=0.15
0.15 x 32.99= 4.95
32.99 - 4.95= 28.04$
She had to pay 28.04$
A belt for 11.99$. 15% of that is 15/100= 0.15
0.15 x 11.99= 1.80
11.99 - 1.80= 10.19$
She had to pay 10.19$
Tim wants to buy a necklace for his mother. The ring costs 74.99, but its on sale for 10% off. David has $69.00. Does he have enough money for the necklace?
What's 10% of 74.99?
10/100= 0.10
0.10 x 74.99= 7.50$
Take that off due to the sale. 74.99 - 7.50= 67.49$
David has 69.00$, so he does have enough.
Texas has a 6.25% sales tax. What is the total costs for a computer purchased in Texas for $599.00?
What's 6.25% of 599?
6.25/100= 0.0625
0.0625 x 599= 37.44
Since that's the tax, ADD that to the initial price.
599$ + 37.44= 636.44$ is what she has to pay.
Hope that helps, if you have any more questions, email me or add me on msn messenger (bouldessources@hotmail.com) or AIM (ultimatekilla111).

This is very simple: probably the easiest way to do this is to take the percentage value and move the decimal point 2 places to the left, use the number you just created to get your answers. For example 50% becomes 0.50 or 1/2; 25% becomes 0.25 or 1/4; 5% becomes 0.05 or 1/20. If the percentage is larger than 100% it still works 150% becomes 1.50 or 1 and 1/2.
For #1, the total bill was 38.05
Jordan's part will be: $38.05 x 0.43 = $16.36
Casey's part will be: $38.05 x 0.27 = $10.27
Michelle's part will be: $38.05 x 0.30 = $11.42
For #2:
$48.93 x 0.20 = $9.79 now add this 20% amount to the original bill $48.93 + $9.79 = $58.72
You could also do this one by realizing you want to leave 100% of your bill + an extra 20% so you could just take the bill for the meal and multiply by 120% 48.93 x 1.20 = $58.72
I think you got the idea now, you should be able to do the others.

Once you know how to do one you can figure them all out.
Jordan,Casey, and Michelle are having lunch. Their bill comes to $38.05. Jordan's meal is 43% of the bill,Casey's is 27% and Michelle is 30%. How much does each person owe
.43 X $38.05 = Jordan's amount owed
.27X $38.05 = Casey's amount owed
.30x $38.05 = Michelle's amount owed
Mr and Ms Key went out to dinner. Their bill was 48.93 they want to leave a 20% tip. How much do they leave?
Again, you just multiply:
$48.93 x .20 =
Ann bought a pair of jeans that costs 27.99,a sweater that costs 32.99, and a belt that cost 11.99. The store is having a 15% off sale. How much did Ann pay?
Add the three prices together, then take that amount x .15.

1. To find out the amount, you multiply the bill by the percentage (move the decimal place over two places)
Jordan: 38.05 * .43
Casey: 38.05 * .27
Michelle: 38.05 * .30
2. 48.93*.20
3. When there's a 15% off sale, what it really means is that you find what 15% of that is, then subtract from the original amount. Or, do 100%-15% = 85% and find the amount from that. I did #4 the first way, #3 the second way.
(27.99 + 32.99 + 11.99) * (1 - .15) =
(27.99 + 32.99 + 11.99) * (.85) =
4. 74.99 - (74.99*.10) =74.99 - 7.499 = 67.491
5. To calculate sales tax, you find 6.25% of the number and add that to the original amount.
599 + (599*.0625)

A good website for grades k - 8 is:
http://aaamath.com/
I will do one question only.
Mr. and Ms. Key went out to dinner. Their bill was $48.93 they want to leave a 20% tip. How much do they leave?
We first change 20% to a decimal.
So, 20% becomes 0.20. How? We remove the percent symbol and move TWO PLACES to the left.
We now multiply 0.20 times the total bill.
0.20 times $48.93 = 9.786
If you round 9.786 to the nearest unit or ones place (in this case 9), they should leave a $10 tip, which is pretty fair.
Wouldn't you say?

a percentage is just a fraction out of 100, so 6% of a number is the same as devding by 100 then multiplying by 6 :)
6% = 6/100 = 0.06
for example for the first problem, take 38.05
divide by 100 to get 0.3805
then multiply by 43 for bill
which equals 16.3615
so $16.36 to the nearest cent ;)

You nkow the bill is 48.93. This is the %100. To find any other percentages you use a simple rule:
For example the %30
100% ___________________ 48.93
30% ____________________ x
x = [30 . (48.93)] /100
x = 14.679
Replacing 30 for 27 or 43 you may find the other percentages
I hope this could help you

1. Take the amount and multiply by the percentage: $38.05 x 43% = 16.36, $38.05 x 27% = 10.27, $38.05 x 30%11.42
16.36 + 10.27 + 11.42 = $38.05
2. 48.93 x 20% = 9.79
And so on.....
