Absolutely YES YES YES YES YES... an INFINITY TIMES YES!!!

The flat tax should be 10% with a "base deduction" system similar to now. But NO OTHER EXEMPTIONS... PERIOD!

Oh... there would be one thing to add to this... that income can only be taxed ONCE.... so INHERITANCE tax would be GONE... taxes on RETIREMENT ACCOUNTS would be GONE... etc. etc. etc.... The ONLY time you pay tax on income is when you EARN it.

Party affiliation: Republican, and PROUD of it!

Have a right-wing day.

I'm an independent and I say a flat tax is unfair and a really bad idea. Why do people think that 10% from a person who makes $30,000 a year is less than 10% from a person who makes $300,000 a year? It's not. It works against the middle class and favors the rich. That's why the rich always advocate this. A progressive tax system is the best and the rich already only pay 15% because they make their wealth from investments not income which is taxed around 35%.

"Flat tax" is not the same thing as the "Fair Tax" and like any taxing method has issues. I don't care for the IRS much and would prefer a graduated flat tax with only the most sacred deductions remaining (mortgage insurance, retirement savings, charitable contributions). We could do it on one post card and really eliminate the need for the IRS, but no one is proposing that.

Its a pretty good idea, but it is the biggest tax break the rich can imagine and the most horrific that the lower income class can think of. I think Flat Tax is a well meant idea, but not thought out well- or if it was----it was drawn up by the rich and it will keep the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. I really dont like the way it promotes social classes when we have made such strides to correct the social classes.

Abolish the IRS - yes please, sign me up!
Flat tax - not so much. Haven't done all my homework on this one, but am interested in a Value Added Tax, or sales tax idea better than a flat tax.

I am against it because low income families don't have the kind of overhead that a flat tax (pay as you go) would require to be a benefit and they don't spend enough. Many families depend on the tax credits that they get now and they represent a much larger portion of America as higher incomes do.
Although IRA and all retirement taxes should be abolished if social security isn't going to be there. I bet you can guess my party affiliation.

In principle, cool with me, up to a point.

But without an enforcement arm, how do we catch people underreporting their income and not paying their fair share of tax? Who is going to check the tax return against income reported by employers, banks, stockbrokers, et al.?

Party affiliation is Independent.

I support the FAIR TAX!

HR 25 the Fair Tax bill would eliminate ALL federal Taxes and withholding and replace it with a national sales tax on new items and services as well as repeal the 16th Amendment.

I think a sales tax would be vastly superior to an income tax.

i think it's a great idea to abolish the IRS. I think we should also restructure the taxes. I'd personally like to be able to opt out of certain services. I 'd prefer not to pay for schools since I do not have any kids utilizing such services. I'd prefer not to pay for libraries/park districts. These seem like optional services that don't make sense for everyone.
