Because the constitution equalizes the three branches, It is difficult to fight for power. The presidant (From what I learned) has no power to eliminate the Judicial or Legeslative branch. But if the presidant goes power mad and tries to become a dictator, what would he/she have to do without ending up in court and getting impeached or even banished from the country.

One big step would be to eliminate freedom of the press, blacking out the media, stopping newspapers from printing, control of the internet, etc.
The second would be to get strict "gun control" measures passed in violation of the second ammendment. Use the legislating courts to your advantage. An unarmed and uninformed citizenry is easier to control.
From there, pack all the courts with cronies loyal to you, shut down the legislature, and suspend the Constitution.

Voila! Instant dictatorship!

Just control the media and you control the people, because the majority of us aren't independant thinkers.

They would also would have to have our country in chaos. The man would have to be a Hitler type who would cast himself as a political savior.

For those who think it can't happen here, you'd better go to Naomi Wolf's website and see the steps this Adm is taking toward Fascism. IT IS HAPPENING, and as author Chalmers Johnson said 'Once we lose our freedom we will never get it back'.

He can't. The entire constitution is designed to stop that happening.

And even if he does, the Founding Fathers wrote one final self defence mechanism in. The Second Amendment isn't for hunting deer.
