Really because SPAIN has a very low birthrate.
They don't teach you that SPANISH people are from SPAIN in your Spanish class?
You speak English, does that make you English?

Hispanic people tend to be mostly Roman Catholic and catholics don't believe in utilizing modern birth control. However, the vast majority of catholics DO use birth control at some point during their lives so the proscriptions against it are not taken as seriously as they once were.
The basic answer would be that what they value within their family and culture is different from other groups. Children are typically welcomed and supported regardless of the circumstances the family currently lives in. And, for some Hispanic young women, they have been raised with the expectation that they will have children young and usually spaced closely together. Many of these young women are not given access to any other option but that and thus, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy.

A) Catholics--no birth control
B) They don't see kids as a burden like we do here. Remember, the extended families are huge, and there are always people to help out. Here in the USA, each family is essentially alone, so it can be pretty difficult for a mom to stay at home with 6 kids.

Yea my spanish teacher told us it was because when the mothers grew old they needed ppl to take care of them and they would have children so they could take care of them once she got old...so they would have a lot of kids because most of them would end up dying because of poverty and the more children the better chance of some of them living to take care of the mother once she got old and now its jus stayed the same even though they're not poor anymore

For one thing the Spanish people are very Catholic and the church is against all forms of birth control except abstinence. This is one reason and who knows maybe that sounds a bit racist but I assure you it isn't. My wife just happens to be both Spanish and Catholic.

My guess is that catholicism is so overly ingrained into the Spanish-speaking cultures that they do not use birth control as widely as in less catholic countries. No birth control, more children.
