ONLY if there was a possibility of helping someone because of it. Otherwise, I still talk tremendously and enjoy being around people. Why monks take the "vow of silence" is beyond me. I will do anything legitimate for a "good cause." I wish you well.

No I would not...Monks do this for several reasons...there is a contemplation that comes from not conversing with others and most monks are at their prayers on a semi continuous basis...so to speak or otherwise distract them from their devotions is not wanted

I might do it for a day but no longer. It's good to sometimes be silent and reflect upon life, dreams and goals, and ways to better yourself. But people need to express themselves verbally. It's not a coincidence that we were granted the ability to speak a language.

I've seen many men take the vow unknowingly. It happens right after they say: "I do."

I couldn't do it but there does seem to be a certain beauty to it, if you can manage it. Maybe some people are just cut out for that way of life. Myself, nah, way to verbal.

I think I'd rather chop off an arm or leg than do that....at least I'd still have another arm/leg, but I only get one voice...
it makes me sad thinking of never talking ;_;
Just think of the things you could never tell your loved ones, or your children not knowing the sound of your voice.......
