someone up there said there is no way to prove this with absolute certainty (4bil vs. 5k yrs), but modern science can prove, with ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY, that the earth IS older than 5,000 years, much older. Of course we can't give it an exact date, but we do have artifacts that have been around for more than 5,000 years, and if you don't believe the science that backs that up then you must not believe the science that has allowed all other modern scientific and technological achievements.
I suppose we also can't PROVE that gravity is always in effect the way our science says it is, but I don't think you'll be jumping from a building to PROVE me wrong. By this same logic there is no way the earth is only 5,000 years old (and btw i DO believe in god, and science, you just don't understand it very well).

No one REALLY knows, but it's old. I'm not a scientist, but does it really matter how old it is. Some say 6000 years, some say billions. No one really knows. And it doesn't really matter if you're republican, democrat, or independent. There is no irrefutable proof of the planet's age.
ADDITION: So, Lamplighter, Paul B. and Chris S., since you are convinced that republicans are to stupid, or unable to give a straight answer, how old is the earth? Can YOU THREE pinpoint the age?

WTF does it matter. Humans have only been a cultured society for about 6000 years, which goes well with the belief in 6000 years. Time is not something the bible projects well at all. If you would spend less time trolling and more time trying to be productive. I personally think being a "top contributer" has more in his head than this.
In answer probabably about 5 billion years old. Like I said time is something the bible is not great on.

Scientists say four and a half billion years. Theologians say about five thousand.
I wasn't around then, and neither were you, so isn't this just a lame little litmus test to see who the bad old Creationists are?
PS. Apparently not? You answer it. Whether you ascribe to the scientific theory or the theological theory, there is NO WAY TO PROVE IT WITH ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY.
It's a cheap shot loaded question.

Old enough to take care of herself. It is only the arrogance of man, who deems to think he can save her from Global Warming, which no matter how many times Al Gore says it's truth, it IS still only a THEORY. No proof exists that Global Warming is real.

9/11 changed everything.........so it's about 6 years and some. 9/11 changed everything except Dick Cheney's briefs, and those are about 4.5 billion years. some of the skid marks are newer.
