stricken, homeless kids?

Don't get me wrong, I think that those three issues are problems no matter what country you're in. I suppose I shouldn't limit it to just America, but since thats where I live, I have. I don't care about the rest of the world's problems. Not when the problems that the country I live in continue to go unsolved while America tries to save the rest of the world. Maybe America as a country should heal from within before we try to heal the world.

I totally agree that we should worry about ourselves before we worry about the rest of the world. Isn't that what we're always told as individuals: "take care of yourself first, then everyone else"? Why doesn't that apply in this respect?

I do, however care about the rest of the world. I just feel we could be more effective if we knew how to take care of our own problems... perhaps we would do a better job at helping other countries as well, no?

I can't say that I disagree. America likes to pretend that we don't have the same problems as everyone else, but we do. And we do nothing about it.
Yes, there are places in this world where people are starving because of corruption in their governments or because they are poor. But we have the same problems here. I agree that we should look at ourselves first, take care of our own before we go tossing money at other nations to show just how "Wonderful" and "Perfect" we are.

We have an ego though, and want to be seen as charitable by the rest of the world.
I still say we should be sending other countries condoms instead of food. You are right- we have our own problems and we can't even solve them, but we like to butt in with everyone else.

I agree with you in that we should take care of our own first and than try to take care of others. but we differ in that I care about the rest of the world, it's just the order is wrong, because you can't really help someone else if you need help.

actually you're right. America MUST start thinking about own problems, before they throw $$$ to help 3rd world countries.

I'm even worse. I don't give a dump about anyone from your state or any other state but mine. Charity begins at home.
