Why do some black folks and indeed a few white folks say 'AKS instead of the proper word 'ASK'?

No malice in this questions people, I just want to know why? lol

Miila...The answer to your question is really simple, because I hear more black people saying, AKS/AXE than I do white people.

my best friend always says aks.... bugs me too.... it just sounds unintelligent.and ignorant.... i dont notice and particular type of person saying it but when i hear it, i cringe.....i yell at her everytime!!!! i dont think its a race issue.....i think its an unintelligent issue.....

I say 'ask'. The whole thing bugs me too. Haywood Banks wrote a funny song about that called Me and Annie Gonna Axe Her Mother. Look it up, it's hilarious.

I am black always say ask . I have never heard any say aks.U R picky who cares , so long as we understand each other. Don;t aks me!

I think they learned to say it that way when they learned to talk, and it has become a habit that stuck. Now it's lazy English. Probably most people who say it that way aren't even aware they are saying it wrong. Like people who say nuculer, instead of nuclear. Which really bugs me, esp when news people, scientists and Goerge Bush say it wrong. Damn it, get it right!

I say ASK, never heard anyone say AKS before either.

why do you have to say "black folks and indeed a few white folks"....i know a lot of people who say ask like its axe, lol, including myself and im brown=) umm idk i've been saying it like that since i was a kid, it was eaiser to say back then and it just became a bad habit...so yeah.

never noticed all the "ppl'' (b/c we all are just ppl) i know say "ask". And maybe it is just culture. there is many ways to say words ex: anut & ant, Tomatoe and Potatoe
