Zachariah Chandler ---- Senator 1857-1879, leader of the Republican Party, Grant's Secretary of the Interior 1875-1876. Without him Lincoln would not have been re-elected and the Civil War possibly lost, the country would have lost millions of dollars and might have suffered a serere depression, and much more.

I have a short booklet on his life, but it is too large to paste here. If you send me an email address I will send it to you.

You'll be surprised.
