I don't think age has anything to do with it. I believe a mature individual is willing to take responsibility for his/her actions for the good of others. And since age doesn't have anything to do with it, in my eyes a 11 year old can have this trait and be more mature than a 31 year old man running away from a problem that he caused, unwilling to confess. Who agrees with me and who disagrees? Explain.

I'm talking about people in general. Gender doesn't matter.

Of course.
We as people grow from our experiences, if we are willing to, and if we choose to. That is why it is common for someone who is older to be more mature, since they generally have more experiences. But this is not necessarily true. That, and someone who may be younger, could also have taken more from their experiences (whether less or more), and learned more from them.

I totally agree with you on your attachment of responsibility to maturity. And as you have more or less said, age may not have much to do with it, an11 year old can have this trait and be more mature than a 31 year (If we don't consider the physical aspects). However we must learn responsibility and this takes time.
The simple fact that people either never learn or choice not to face up to responsibility is a sad fact of the world in which we live.
So yes, maturity after a certain age is independent of age.

i agree, and i believe the traits that define maturity are:
* not backstabbing
* thinking before you speak
* keeping to yourself
* being yourself
* knowing what really matters
* dressing up to a certain extent
* taking care of yourself.. nothing is less-attractive than a 30 yr old that can't get himself a glass of water. bleh!
* cleaning after yourself
* staying out of stuff you know can get you into trouble

(1) The pulse rate in a new born baby is about 140
beats per minute. This pulse rate gradually reduces
during the teenage period and settles down to it's
stable value of 76 beats per minute after the age of 24
years. Different sects in the world have different
criteria to declare a person to become a youth. The
Indian tradition says that a person becomes a youth on
his 25th birth day, taking the stable heart beat value
into consideration.

(2) Modern psychologists treat the period from 35 to 40
years as middle-age crisis period. Most of the people
may not feel much during this period. However for those
few persons who experience its full intensity, it will
be like a mini-death. In English, 'flourit' means the
age of dawning of wisdom; it also means the age of 40.
(See a multi-volume dictionary in a library). Energy in
the body will be at its highest during the youth period
from 25 to 40 years of age. Generally, Buddhi
(intellect) starts functioning after the age of 40
years, but it may take longer for others. You can not
blame a teenager or a youth for not having it. It is a
general observation that only person aged beyond 40
years are called intellectuals. Awakening of the intellect
is the sign of mental meturity.
(3) The period from 40 to 60 years is called the
declining period of youth-hood. It is also the period
of gaining wisdom.

In a man or a woman? Be specific? There is a difference. Men mature much later in life. Women mature faster but their emotions can get in the way...
