I think at this point it doesn't really matters anymore. Chances are he has the succession plan in place and will still be behind the scenes in what ever capacity he has left. Also, he has pretty much lost all international importance and weight as Chavez has kindly taken over his place. He only has his Iconic factor left which will be used and abused (as is Che's image) but Politically he has no voice as he seems to speak only to himself more and more as the years go by.
I think any new leader will be more open than the current regime which should improve the life for the locals. That will probably be the only positive to come out of this as the island has no strategic importance to anyone anymore. IMHO

Ok, listen with both ears next time. He stated he would not stand in the way of younger leaders. He did not say he was stepping down. He is a senile old man who still fears freedom and liberty for his people. The darling of the leftists.

Won't that be a first? I mean a Communist leader stepping aside without being pushed out at literal bayonet point?
I have mixed feelings. I'll be glad to see him go, but worried about who will win the inevitable power struggle that will follow. You know how it is, better dealing with the devil you know than the devil you don't know.

Skeptical.Even If he is stepping down I think He'll probably still have a considerable amount of control.

A part of me says woo hoo but then again you don't know if these "younger leaders" will be any better or any worse.
