GAZA CITY -- The batteries are the size of a button on a man's shirt, small silvery dots that power hearing aids for several hundred Palestinian students taught by the Atfaluna Society for Deaf Children in Gaza City.

Now the batteries, marketed by Radio Shack, are all but used up. The few that are left are losing power, turning voices into unintelligible echoes in the ears of Hala Abu Saif's 20 first-grade students.

The Israeli government is increasingly restricting the import into the Gaza Strip of batteries, anesthesia drugs, antibiotics, tobacco, coffee, gasoline, diesel fuel and other basic items, including chocolate and compressed air to make soft drinks.

This punishing seal has reduced Gaza, a territory of almost 1.5 million people, to beggar status, unable to maintain an effective public health system, administer public schools or preserve the traditional pleasures of everyday life by the sea.

"Essentially, it's the ordinary people, caught up in the conflict, paying the price for this political failure," said John Ging, director of the U.N. Relief and Works Agency in Gaza, which serves the majority refugee population. "The humanitarian situation is atrocious, and it is easy to understand why -- 1.2 million Gazans now relying on U.N. food aid, 80,000 people who have lost jobs and the dignity of work. And the list goes on."

Oh so shocking,
Sadly that is the way of the opressive regime that is now operating from America, sheer bully boy tactics.
Israel impose more and more sanctions, crippling the Palestinians and trying to gain control over them. They are poking at the hornets nest, and it won't be long before they get stung.

Thus playing right into Bush's hands.
If Israel are attacked under such circumstances, then it's a green light for them to retaliate, and quite possibly with nuclear capabilities, which will in turn set off Iran who will attack Israel in defence of Palestine.
And then who will step up to the plate with his finger on the nuclear button,,
That's right Bush, with his idiotic, sh*tkicker grin, not giving two f*cks about the devastation he will unleash on the world.

Israel are America's puppets in this so called war on terrorism, they are there purely to do their dirty work and inevitably start World War Three.

With the worlds governments pledging money for the Palestinians, hopefully aide will reach these people soon and they can continue to gain some meaning to their lives, Israel is adamant about their defences and the world is no longer seeing them as the victims, the Palestinian people have suffered enough being used as scapegoats and labelled as terrorists now where before they were freedom fighters.
Israel allows illegal settlements to continue to be built on Palestine territories and then deploys the army to guard them against possible attack, further restricting the people from growing any basic crops, I just find it more sickening in this modern age that such blind hatred is demanded by the religious minority who run Israel.
A peace agreement can be reached but who will be the impartial broker, I am not against either side but for the vast majority from both sides who realise this is no way to live your life, there must be hope for all, and the world leaders need to stop playing with these innocent childrens future.

I'm truly impressed at the caliber of the answers to your question, OYEP. As you know, it's Israel's sneaky little way of getting the Palestinians riled up enough to fight back---so that Israel can "justify" another incursion into Palestinian territory. Israel keeps it's place in the heart of the U.S. government by willfully retaining its "Victimhood" status.
Another game the Israelis are proficient at is doing whatever they can to destroy the Palestinian economy. Bu sealing the borders, they are making sure that farmers' crop rot before they can be exported to their destinations in Europe, and that factories will close for want of supplies and raw materials. An economically sound Palestine is a strong Palestine...that's the very last thing Israel wants. "Peace" talks, with the likes of Israel? What a sham.

They need every cent of it. Their health service with on supplies. No clean water out of the taps. And even the sewage plant has packed up leaving the waste to run over the fields of the crops they have managed to grow.
Their plight is a very sad one.
Israel is effectively playing god, can we allow this to continue. Should they be given tax payers hard earnt dollars. Isn`t it time to shout stop it..

The Kenessit anounced today 17th Dec that they will not stop further building on Arab land in the west bank.

Is their word worth anything..??

Israel left Gaza and the Palestinians could do something constructive with their territory, but the only thing they can do is fire kassams (rockets) at Sderot - a poor Israeli town.

All the Palestinians can do is create terror and destruction in an Israeli town instead of building their own place. No I don't feel sorry for them - I feel sorry for the Israelis living in Sderot.
