yes and no..
it prepares them for the real world... they can see how people act.. and hopefulyl learn from others mistakes..
however, it also lets them see these people getting drunk and having sex.. and getting into fights.. who people admire and love.. therefore they may thinkthey should act in these ways also..

I think it does have a bad influence. So much of it involves scantily clad girls kissing and rubbing boys, foul talk, I think the way the camermen videotape these shows is very provocative too. The shows I refer to are many and varied but to name a few:
1. I Love New York
2. Helldate
3. The show where lesbians and straights vie for the affection of an asian girl, Tila something
4. Orange County Housewives
There are many more that have escaped my mind.
I see nothing in these shows that have any social value at all and are terrible forms of entertainment that appeal to the younger set and most assuredly help create negative life styles.

I believe it possibly does but only among the highly impressionable ones that are going thru the phase where group popularity is an issue. It also seems to be more prelevent among the middle income classes.
I do not have any supporting facts or documentation for this, but my new home in the Philippines, there is a Pinoy Big Brother show very similar to the Euro/USA ones except that it is 24/7. Even though the poverty level here is around 90%, what passes for middle income households have the late-teens wholly engrossed with this show. They pattern themselves after the shows participants and even get into personal arguments where one person invariably says something like "you're just like that b*tch on PBB" and names their person of dislike.

Depends on who teaches them what Reality is.
Reality TV is not reality because people alter their behaviour in order to win a competition. That's why you see people who may indeed be truthful and honest in real life become scheeming liars in order to win $1million.
As like any other TV (reality or not), the parent should be there to make sure that the teen knows that some aspects of "reality tv" are not real.

It depends on what the reality show is. If it's something along the lines of American Idol, then it could inspire them to go after their dreams. This is obviously good. If it's something along the lines of Flavor of Love, then it could harm the way teens think and do things. For example, a teen could start dressing and talking like a Flavor of Love contestant, which would not be a good thing.

Not really. Most "reality" TV shows are cut and paste TV shows. The producers shoot hours of footage then piece it together to make a TV show.
Parents have to monitor everything their child watches on TV. Some cartoons are too much for kids these days.

Hm, well I am a teen, and we've had to do essays on this in school.
Personally, I think so. Some of these shows we watch have people acting very inappropriately, and if this person happens to be a role model to us, we will follow what they do, we want to be just like them, no matter if there good or bad. We just know they get attention for it, and we want attention too just like these people on the television get.
As some people have mentioned, it depends on the show, too. I like dancing with the stars. I am a dancer, and this show inspires me to one day be on this show and be a world famous dancer.
But a show like Tila Tequila or Sweet 16 is completely..I don't even know the word.

I would say yes because they pick out the craziest skankiest moraless people they can find, if they took a bunch of educated, well meaning people the show just wouldn't be interesting (or so the execs think)
So it's an example of the worst kind of people, so yes, I would say it is a bad influence for teens

Yes, because they give the impression that the program is about real life. However, it frequently is crafted by editors and producers to dramatize a certain concept of real life.
They emphasize the more dramatic and controversial moments and disregard the bulk of what really happens.
A teen, who is learning about relationships and values, will see this and get a very distorted view of how other people live their lives.

i don't think so because I'm a teen and i watch reality TV. I do excellent in school and have never gotten in serious trouble. You have to be smart enough to use your head and not do everything you see on TV.
