Don't let the status thing control your life. It's all very phoney anyway. Nobody's better than anyone else. Period. Stick it out. Make some friends. Things will get better. Don't let it all stress you out.

I'm glad you asked this question. I work in a high school, and it's pretty funny that I do. I HATED high school. I always said that you couldn't pay me enough to go back to those years, and now well here I am back at high school. High school is a time of transition and it is definitly a hard few years, I don't envy being a teen. Let alone a teen with a disability, which is who I work with at my job. Anyway, one thing I always try to stress to my students is that in the "real world" it is very different. You don't have deal with the same catty crap that you do in hs. It's not as clicky and people aren't as mean. Now, don't get me wrong there are people who will be your friends, and people who won't, people you will like, and people you won't.....there just isn't as much B.S. You go to work, make friends, and if someone doesn't like you it just doesn't matter as much....part of that comes with age and growing up. Trust me, you don't sit and wonder who is looking at you and whispering in the break room. You just eat your lunch and go back to work. If you make friends at work, great, if you don't oh well. You'll see once you get out of high school and move on to college or work.....there are the same problems but you will be older and people will be (hopefully more mature) and with time and experience things change. Take your time and try to enjoy high school, I just had my 10 year reunion and I sometimes think back and realize that I didn't take advantage of enough because I was too busy looking at the school, people and experience that made me hate going there every day. You are a freshman with only a few months in high school, you will find your niche and make friends, just remember yes, things get better.
Keep your head up!

Honestly, it just gets harder after high school. Yeah you don't have grades/projects to worry about but in place of that you have bills to pay and a life to figure out. When school ends you've got to find your place in the world and that can be a very long and sometimes lonely journey. In my experience the whole popularity contests dissipated when I went to college but there will ALWAYS be someone in your life that thinks popularity is everything and that they're better than everyone. Best way to deal with those people is ignore them, they are immature and don't deserve your feelings and thoughts. As for normal, there's no such thing as normal and if you think about it why would you want that? Life would be boring. Keep your chin up, hun. You've got lots of hard times ahead but you've also got lots of good times ahead too. Things don't get easier but some things do get fun. So have fun with the life ya got! Hope I helped :D

Freshman year can be very stressful. Not only are you thrown in with a bunch of new kids, but you're also now the "low man on the totem pole" so to speak. The main thing you need to do is get involved in activities--band, drama, sports, something that will get you thinking positive thoughts. And, to a certain extent, there will always be the popular crowd even after high school. The difference is in how you deal with them. You can choose to be your own person and form your own relationships rather than worry too much about who's in what crowd. I was a geek in high school, and it was tough, but now, I'm smart enough to know that it's easy to be happy when you take care of yourself and don't worry too much about what others think. Originality and Individuality will always win out over popularity in the long run.

Some things are the same and some things are different, but most people don't care about status anymore. Those "popular" people are really looked down upon in college and pretty much laughed at behind their backs.
Just work on keeping your grades up so you can go to a good college and figure out who your true friends are, the ones who will support you through thick and thin. Don't worry, it gets better. Grades first!

popular just means "hated"
notice that the only ppl that like popular people are themselves? They make everyone else around them feel inferior which is why, technically, YOU'RE popular. Popular in the sense meaning you have more friends than them b/c u share a common hatred ;)
anyways high school, work sucks. Sophomore year is the best, Junior year is TERRIBLE. but Senior year is actually better than sophomore year because by then you're in college and don't even need to try.
Then college comes along, you make friends, live in a dorm room, go to class WHENEVER u want (makeup your own schedule) it's really nbot as bad. i mean unless ur studying to be a doctor or lawyer. Anything else not so much studying so honestly itgets better/

Trust me, it gets better. Yeah, you suddenly get a whole lot of crappy responsibilities (like bills and mortgages, and car insurance), but you also get the ability to smile and walk the hell away from people who annoy you.
There will always be popular people and people who will try and pick on you, but the nice thing about being a grown up is you can call them on it and tell them to grow up. Some people stay stuck in high school, with that mentality that "I must be popular! The only way to do that is to hurt others!" but it does get better.

Oh, good god, no...college is NOTHING like high school! People act like GROWN UPS (imagine!) and while the whole clique thing may exist to some extent (think: sororities), it is nowhere near like in high school.
Hang in there, sweetie. High school sucks!!!! But, keep your grades up, get out of there in a few years, and never look back.
Also, know that the lame-o "popular" girls and boys will be the ones who end up staying in your home town, having a bunch of kids and working menial jobs. The smart "nerds" will be the ones who go on to great success.

You know what. High school must not have changed much over the years. It was really stressful for me, but I went on to college and that was a lot better. And later life got a lot better. And then I went to a high school reunion. Those people that thought they were so much in high school for the most part were losers, still trying to live in that period of time of their lives. They couldn't move on, they wanted to be in high school forever. So yes, life will get better for you.

Please dont pay any attention to the status of the kids in your high school. I am 25 and left my hometown the day after I graduated high school. When I went back to my hometown a couple of years ago I found that most of the jocks and rich kids were the ones working at Wendys and the geeks and losers were the ones working as nurses or managers.
