If I lived to be 200 years old I doubt I could ever reach my dad. He was one great guy. I really miss him.

You know, I would like to be able to say I am half the man my father was but I don't think I have even come that far.

Merry Christmas.

In a lot of ways and in looks I am.
I learned to get 2 of everything just to make sure that I had one when I needed it.
I learned to strive for doing the best that I could.

But, my father worked 28 days at work and 14 at home so, I pretty much picked up my day to day habits from my mother.

My day was a good man, loved my mother and never abused anyone that I know of. But everyone knew that there was the right way, the wrong way and Roy's way.

Just recently I caught myself whistling along with some music... Just like my dad used to do.

In small ways yes and in other ways I wish... Dad got a lot smarter at a much earlier age than I have.

No. My father was not much of a "touch-er" he was pretty much all business, hard worker, respectable, etc. excellent teacher of things mechanical. My brother and I knew he loved us, although I can not remember him ever saying so. I, on the other hand "hug" my grand kids (4) as often as I can and I don't try to influence them with my training, career choices etc. I also enjoy recreating with them whenever possible, boating, off-road vehicles etc. I tell my family I love them any time we talk on the phone as a sign off. I refuse to grow up.

Physically, yes to a large degree, behaviorally, no because as a youngster I detested the way he treated my mom [ abusive ] and vowed I would never be like that. I hate it when criminals hide behind childhood and claim to just be copying what they saw at home, we all have choices in our actions. I basically hated my father, so why would I turn into something I hated !

I am nothing like my father, which was my goal in life and my relatives have confirmed it for me. When I use to see them, they wished that my father had known how well I grew up and that I was the furthest thing from him in character and nature. If anything, I took up the teachings of my step father and my mother, but in the end, I molded myself to what a person should be in conduct and manners.

NO! Thank goodness. But a friend of mine was looking at some pictures on my bookcase, corner cabinet, etc. He said, "Who's that woman you're standing next to?" I looked and he was looking at my grandmother and GRANDFATHER at their 50th wedding anniversary!
However, I have sort of turned into my step-dad. I like to sit in my rocker, smoke my pipe on the porch, study the Bible, read a lot, collect ball caps and wear them cock-eyed on my head, and say 'ehyup'.

If I could be so lucky as to be like my father. The only thing I didn't really like in the beginning was the sternness but that's normal right? So I'd like to think so but that would be dreaming.

My father was the most impatient and unapproachable (for kids) man I've ever known. I made it a point as a father never to be anything like that.

You bet! I not only resemble him physically, but I ended my teaching career at the same school where he taught. Talk about an identity crisis.
