I think it is likely that extra-terrestrial life exists. There are over 100 billion galaxies, our galaxy has about 100 billion stars, and in just our one-star system, we KNOW that life has appeared on at least one planet.
Furthermore, there is no universally-accepted definition of what life actually is. Throughout history, our conception of the limitations on life (temperature, pressure, body composition) have been regularly overturned. The tube worms that live near deep-sea hydrothermal vents significantly changed the maximum temperature we think at which life (not to mention complex life) can still exist. On Earth, life is carbon-based, but this isn't necessarily the case on other planets in vastly different areas of the cosmos. What I mean to say is that, just searching the universe for environments similar to Earth isn't the only way to investigate extra-terrestrial life.
All that said, until we actually have proof of extra-terrestrial life, all opinions on the matter are conjecture.
