try reading the constitution. It is there, plain as day. There is always some know nothing alleging that income tax is illegal, but I can assure you, it is very much legal.

SIXTEENTH AMENDMENT

INCOME TAX

__________

The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes,
from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several
States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.

No, the federal income tax is not unconstitutional. Article I, Section 8 gives Congress the authorize to raise taxes. There was an income during the American Civil War.

The 16th Amendment grants the power to Congress to levy an income tax.

>Anti_censorship. Where did you get the idea that the 16th Amendment was never ratified? If it had not been ratified, something else would be the 16th Amendment. Ever hear of ERA? How about the Platt Amendment? They have no number because neither were ratified.

Unfortunately the 16th Amendment does allow for it, the problem is as always that once started it was never reasonably curtailed. The Forefathers never meant for the common people to pay significant taxes, and certainly not a national tax on their income, they meant for the rich ONLY to pay taxes. They would roll over in their graves if they saw our tax system today, as they would view people's income as personal property so inherently outside the pervue of the federal government that it wouldn't even be up for discussion.

No. There is a specific Constitutional amendment that authorizes it! The sixteenth? I think.

Yep here it is , the sixteenth amendment ;The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.

Actually, because of an amendment to the constitution (see the 16th amendment) the IRS and the Federal Reserve Bank exist legally.

The REAL issue with the IRS is that Several Circuit courts and the Supreme Court have all ruled that "income" is the profit realized from a business venture or an investment and that wages, salaries, commissions and tips constitute a direct exchange of time, service or talent for money and are NOT income for taxation purposes.

The IRS ignores these rulings and because of their jackbooted approach to enforcement and the fear they instill through shear extortion, nobody will stand up to them. Nobody has the money or the clout to win that fight anyway!

It was until Amendment XVI (the Sixteenth Amendment) of the United States Constitution was ratified on February 3, 1913. Since that date it had been perfectly legal.

The 16th amendment was never ratified by the States so it is not a constiutional amendment. Therefore the Constitution does not authorize the personal income tax but the government is very greedy for your money anyway.

The documentary flatly lied. Constitutionally, congress has the power to levy taxes, and they did.
