To assume you have nothing to live for is a huge mistake. The main reason for living is because this world is pretty amazing. There are really crappy parts, sure, but if you are so desperate that you are willing to kill yourself, you are completely free. Societal norms no longer matter. You can blow all your money on awesome trips. You can tell the stupid people to go screw themselves. You are free. Then you step back into the real world, but you keep that idea of freedom. What makes most people so desperate in life are all the societal norms and rules holding them down. If you are willing to kill yourself, those norms no longer matter.
Now, I'm not suggesting someone then go crazy, but you gain a certain freedom that makes things a lot less desperate. All those bad things are no longer so significant. You keep living because there are still things to experience. You're depressed? Why? Really, why? Let it all go. You're free now.
You then take this freedom and incorporate it into a life that sticks to the rules enough to be a decent human being, but remembering that they no longer define you. And that life is all about experiencing the world. And you no longer want to kill yourself. Essentially, it is all in your perspective. Some people need to base their perspective on how many people care about them or some other anchor. What they need to do is look at the world through wide-open eyes.
The biggest problem is that most people who want to kill themselves are not rational. Their brain chemicals are imbalanced. The depression is artificial - caused almost exclusively by the chemicals in your brain. Thus, the person generally needs to see a mental health professional. Medications really do work wonders for depression.

I personal have no respect for people that choose this route. As far as I am concerned that is the easy way out. That is it that is all nothing after that. I would let this person know this and in the same breath tell them that if they needed to talk I am here.
I would tell them that their reality is what they make it. Change your mind change your life. i would say if you are not happy where you are you need to go somewhere else. If you are on the verge of killing yourself there is no reason to stay in the lif that you your self has choosen.
Find someone who you admire and adopt their traits. If you believe that you are happy you will be happy. If you believe that you are sad, you will be sad.\
Good luck with your dilema and a hope that you find a better road fro yourself.

Suicidal people often result to this act because they cannot handle their problems, therefore, this is a signal that they need psychological help, emotional help or some form of help appropriate for the suidical person. It is never a good thing to be feeling suicidal if you are feeling this way. You need to get help with your problem(s) because often times, they get the best of us if we don't seek to solve the problem. There's always an answer to your problems, it's just that people sometimes don't want to deal with them anymore. Most massacres or mall shooting sprees want attention that something is going on with their lives and they feel alone. It's not good to feel that way. Noone needs to feel this way but life has it's ups and downs I was told. Try to appreciate life. What is keeping me alive honestly is the pain before I get *there*. It's probably worse.

A person who has no reason for living does not have meaningful goals. They should stop and think what they need for their happiness, and get up and start making their dreams come true.
A reason for living - hope for a good future!
A reason for living - amazing beauty of the earth and of all things therein.
A reason for living - the mystery of life! wouldn't you like to go to the end of life and see what's in store?
A reason for living - constant learning - learning is fun! and by living, we never run out of topics to learn from.
A reason for living - our families and closest bonds. Love itself! Who knows, tomorrow you might meet the love of ur life.
A reason for living - believing that life is a gift.
Taking ones life could also be a very selfish act. Imagine...by taking ur life....how many people you'd be affecting? Their lives would change forever - esp your family. U will give everyone gloom and doom and lifelong depression. Not worth it! Be there for ur family and make them smile!
And really, last but not the least, meaningful goals that makes us feel satisfied and happy and useful. Goals that help us make a difference...
So many reasons for living...

I dont fear death and i dont mind living. i live to see how humanity work together, to help my family, to aid friends, to meet those i never got a chance to meet at all. Living can be extremely frightening at times, but it's an oppurtunity to explore.
There is always something to live for. Sometimes we or i just dont know that yet. Living is about searching for happiness before passing away. i live to fix any mistakes.
For someone to end their own life is really sad. at times i wonder if there is any way i can help them without any psychological means. being a friend i suppose. be at their side and understand them.
i live for many reasons. this is just a part of the list.

I have thought about suicide a time or two.
I never did it (obviously); I am not Catholic, but I definitely believe suicide is a pretty sure ticket to hell. So, yes, I think the thought of not going to heaven is part of the reason I never did it.
The biggest reason I go on is my family. I could never do that to my parents (my father in particular). My aunt, my uncle, and my fiancée would suffer for my selfishness.
Besides, I've been beating death for a long time. I'm not about to let the bastard win now.

I think that the person who is about to kill themselves should not rely on the concern of others for a reason to live. He should think about why he's here in the first place.

You can't just have one answer for something like this. Everyone has a different life and everyone has something they're passionate about. I can't say my family keeps me alive because I hate them. I can't say my husband because I wouldn't kill myself if he ever left me. I can't say my job because I really hate it. I can't say God because I'm not even sure if he exists. I'm alive because I'm curious to see what the next day will bring. I always expect to see something new and different. The feeling of awe I get when I experience something new is like being born all over again. Nothing in this life is worth killing yourself over because nothing will ever be more important than me. Sure it sounds selfish, but it's keeping me alive.

I think it wouldn't be what their friends thought that stops them, I think its fear of the unkown, what if there really is a Hell and you go there? What if there is nothing...... thats what would stop me. That and the fact that its the most selfish decision a person could make. The pain it would cause your family and friends would be devastating.
