I have Compaq Presario C509NR laptop and it came up with Windows Vista. It has 1.86 Ghz processor and 512Mb RAM. The laptop is too slow.

To get it faster, i have 2 opinions. Which is better?

1.) get the windows XP on it.
2.) Upgrade the RAM and use the same Windows Vista on it.

Which is better and why??

Upgrade RAM. Vista seems to be the future.

XP. Lots of what I read (reddit, etc) says bad things about Vista.

Third option: Linux
