the uranium needed to run their power plant?
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071217/ap_on_re_mi_ea/russia_iran
"But Iran said it would continue its enrichment activities at a separate facility, in the central city of Natanz, to provide fuel for another nuclear reactor."
Couldn't Russia just provide uranium for hat plant as well?
Why do they still want that technology?
"If that's the case — if the Russians are willing to do that, which I support — then the Iranians do not need to learn how to enrich," Bush said in Fredricksburg, Va. "If the Iranians accept that uranium for civilian nuclear power, then there's no need for them to learn how to enrich."
Bush also reiterated his view that "Iran's a danger to peace," despite a recent U.S. intelligence estimate that found Iran halted a nuclear weapons program in 2003.
"My attitude hasn't changed toward Iran," he said. "If somebody had a weapons program, what's to say they couldn't start it up tomorrow?"
Your thoughts...

Steve... do you grow your own food... or do you purchase it at the market?
Also, Iran has one of the largest oil reserves and natural gas reserves in the world. Why would they need nuclear power? It isn't even efficient with their city sizes.

Benni... Iran is energy independent. America is not anywhere near energy independent as they could be. And enriched uranium isn't like oil. You don't need massive quantities on a daily basis.

Steve... exactly... they make their money selling oil and they now can buy enriched uranium. As stated, it does not require massive amounts on a regular basis for these plants.
Wouldn't it be resposible of those that have the technology to keep it from those who would use it for evil purposes? Iran has publicly declared what they would do when they get this technology. Just because someone wants it, doesn't mean you give it to them... even if they have a reason that seems non-threatning. In other words, you don't give a serial killer a gun because he says he just wants to hunt for food.

The President is 100% correct. How anyone can not see what the Iranians are up is mind boggling. But then the looney left hate the President so much they would rather have NYC nuked before they would believe him.

Republicans are wide awake and aware that Iran and Russia are the enemies of Israel and the US. Furthermore, Republicans don't live in a naive state of trying to make the world "love" us. They live in the hard reality that our enemies want to kill us. In fact, there is NO dialogue with the enemy but sissy Obama keeps on appeasin'. Republicans know the enemy (radical Islam) believe in hudna: lie to your enemy then when his back is turned, kill him. From this day forward, there will never be peace in the Middle East until Jesus Christ returns. Russia, Iran, parts of Africa and the nations that surround Israel will attempt to take her out but they will fail. Were you aware that there are N. Koreans in Iran right now? They are helping the Iran regime develop nuclear bombs. Did you know that N. Korea and Iran have been launching missiles straight up into the atmosphere? N. Korea has stated that the missiles have "failed" but in reality they are probably practicing to explode an EMP over America? Russia plays a role in "helping" Iran in getting uranium and the purpose is for war. Did you know that Ahmadinejad of Iran and Chavez of Venezuela are planning to build missiles in Venezuela. Any bets on what direction they will be pointing? Did you know that Border Patrol agents have discovered tunnels leading into our country from Mexico? Our gov't knows for a fact terrorists have infiltrated our country. Evidence has been discovered that 800 cities are targeted for an attack. Also, evidence has been discovered in the San Diego harbor of anthrax and radiation. Is Obama protecting us? If I know about the foregoing, how much more does Obama and Congress know? We live in a scary world. Obama must be held accountable.

It is for the same reason that they refused Saudi Arabia's offer to join a co-op of ME countries manufacturing and importing nuclear energy from Europe -
ENERGY is not what they want it for.
I think we will continue to see a backlash against Iran by its neighbors for bringing the threat of a nuclear holocaust to the region.
We can only hope..... :o)
Someone needs to stop them and stop them, now! The ramifications are too scary to ignore.

I don't think the impulse toward self-sufficiency is unusual. Who wants to rely on the charity of others?
That being said, it is certainly possible Iran would eventually like to restart a weapons program. Bush stated three nations were "evil" -- he then invaded one of those nations (Iraq), despite the fact that this nation did not posses weapons of mass destruction. However, he made a deal with another of the nations (North Korea) -- the only one to posses nuclear weapons. Now, his rhetoric has turned toward Iran. It seems that history has shown Iran that if they do not posess weapons, they will be invaded. If you were in their position, wouldn't you want nukes?
EDIT:
I don't grow my own food, but I do earn my own money. And I'm sure you do as well, after all, who would rather beg for handouts from others?
As to the second point, Iran has stated that they want to sell their oil instead of burning it for power. Nuclear power is a cheaper way to get electricity than burning oil you could sell for $100/barrel.

Simply put... they want the bomb. It is soooooo obvious now. Most countries would love not to have to deal with that type of waste... which makes the point all the more clear.

There is no doubt they are trying to develop an atomic bomb and certainly one they can deliver. First target - Israel. After that watch out America.

Maybe they want to become energy independent. America would not want to rely on any one nation to provide us with fuel for our plants. We would want to produce it ourselves also wherever possible.
---------------------------------------------------
Iran is not energy independent. Someone mentioned that they buy all of their Uranium from Russia.
