Black Rhinos live in primarily grasslands, savannahs and tropical bushland habitats. In very hot time of the day, they are most inactive spent resting, sleeping and wallowing in the mud.
They are known as herbivores eating leafy plants, branches, shoots, thorny wood bushes and fruit. They can get aggressive and attack out of fear, confusion and panic. As they have very poor eyesight, they will charge if they sense a threat.
Black rhinos use their horns for defense, intimidation, and digging up roots and breaking branches during feeding.Their thick layered skin protects the rhino from thorns and sharp grasses though their skin could also harbor many external parasites which are eaten by ox peckers and egrets that live with them.
Their very poor eyesight turned them to rely more on hearing and smell thus they have large ears that rotate much like satellite dishes to detect any sound and a large nose that has an excellent sense of smell to detect predators.
