I may be going against the grain here...but I think she is overrated. I never was a big fan of talk shows to begin with...but then she started that book club...( SHUDDERS) Cheers all....( I am up to my second rum and coke....everyone needs to catch up! :)

I'm part of her demographic audience (middle-aged, white woman) but I never watch her show. It just doesn't interest me. I admire her accomplishments but I get sick of hearing about what she is doing at the current moment. Not everything she does is interesting enough to make the news. It makes me think that she has no private life and lives her life completely in the public eye. That might be the reason she hasn't ended her show even though she has repeatedly promised to do so. She wouldn't know what to do with herself if she didn't get to live her life in front of an audience.

Oprah is a self-made woman who came from poverty to become one of the richest women in the world. She's much more than just a talk show host i.e. there are college courses taught that focus just on her business successes---investments, businesses she owns, and charitable organizations she's established. She's a cultural icon that deserves respect from all people, especially women.

I don't watch Oprah, I guess i can appreciate the fact that she can be generous with the mass amounts of money she has earned, but the fact that she made Dr. Phil popular makes me puke a little in my mouth. I like Ellen better... and I'm not a lesbian.

I like Oprah, and I'd like her even if I wasn't a feminist.

EDIT - are we back on with the Oprah bashing?

She's at least as important as all the sports figures who earn as much as she does.

Smoofus, she is a billionaire, so maybe sports figures don't earn as much as Oprah. Then again, at least she speaks in complete sentences.

Don't know much about her, couldn't really say much. Never really sat down and watched her show. She is just another T.V personality and I don't trust anything I see on T.V.

I think going from poverty to a billionaire's pretty impressive. I don't watch her show though.
