Live traps are not too humane. The live traps I have seen catch more than one mouse at a time. The mice are confined and start attacking each other pretty quickly. It is pretty gruesome to open the trap and find the corpse of one mouse and the gnawed winner. I think that a snap trap is about as human as you can get when it comes to traps.

I have heard that spreading peppermint oil around the place will drive them out. I have never tried this so I do not know if it will work or not.

As was mentioned previously, politely ask them to leave. Also point out the other wonderful places they can make their home. When you are doing this, make sure you have all cracks and crevices sealed so they won't be tempted to return. Also make sure you have pet foods sealed in plastic storage containers. Keep pet foods swept up off the floors, etc.
It may sound flip asking them to leave, but if you ask for it in the highest good for both you and the mice, they will find a new place to live. I did this with the mice and the ants in our store. It works wonders!

Traps that instantly breaks the back of the mouse. The so called ' humane ' traps must be terrifying for the trapped mouse, and, as for releasing them many miles away, surely that would make them a target for other rodent like creatures.

There are many boxes where the mice go into and then you can take them to the fields and just let them out. The are sold in department stores and some food outlets. They go in for food and can breathe just fine then you just take them to where ever you wish and set them free.

If you release them, they will return. If you release them far away, they will enter somebody elses house and then they will kill them.

They are mouse! A pest. It is OK to kill them off.

Good Luck.

P.S. stop watching Disney Channel.
