It's a mix of both. I usually say Merry Christmas to everybody. Sometimes when I'm really hyper though I'll go through all the holidays I know that are in December. Most of the time I'm like Merry Christmas to friends and stuff, and if they do not celebrate Christmas, I'll just say sorry and say Happy Holidays.
Speaking of which....have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Years!

Both, depending who I'm talking to. If I don't know what someone celebrates I'll say Happy Holidays. But if I know they celebrate Christmas I have no problems saying Merry Christmas. If they're Pagan, I'll say Merry Solstice. I guess it just depends who I'm talking to. My husband is an Atheist and he says Merry Christmas all the time. He doesn't have a problem with it. I have yet to meet any of these alleged evil secularists who are trying to get rid of Christmas. :) BTW - I'm Pagan, so...

I usually say "Happy Holidays" to strangers or people that I don't know well so that I can encompass all holidays. But if I'm just talking with family or close friends that I know celebrate Christmas, I say, "Merry Christmas."

I say it depending on who I am dealing with. If someone has on a Santa Shirt or is buying Christmas cards.....I wish them Merry Christmas. Others it's Happy Holidays unless it's obvious they dont.....then I wish them a nice day. If I offend a couple along the way.....deal with it. I'm trying.
