to answer your question onliimee - Im still in college, so im not really in that situation YET.. but i DO see myself headed that way. I am a computer network major, and know of all the outsourcing of computer jobs that have taken place so.... I also have friends that have computer science degrees, and half went to the military, the other half are working as doormen in buildings or at clothing stores for 10 an hour and such....Really i think Americas educational system is retarted, its only good if you want to do certaint things, the other things you really waste your time with (for example, what the hell can you do with a major in womens studies? become a feminist?!?!??!)

got a good degree and it has served me very well over my life. well worth the investment. but it was more about WHAT I LEARNED than having the credential. going to college is your opportunity to make yourself into a person who is worth being paid a lot. the degree doesn't get you jack. it's your abilities that matter.

I went to college with the intention of bettering myself and learning about the world and the people in it. I graduated with a degree in biology and was not able to find a job in my field. If I could do it over again, I would still study biology, but I would get more experience in that field and I might even pick a second major. Really, work experience, internships, and connections are more important than what you choose to study in college. Use your time in college to do that. Meet interesting people, get a job, and learn new things. If you don't do those things, you're wasting your time. College is a time when you get a chance to discover yourself and try new things, it shouldn't be scary. Keep an open mind.

Most 4 year degrees are useless, they're mostly preparatory for a graduate degree. Most political science majors I went to school with had plans to go on to law school. If you want a job with a 4 year degree, major in business.

i got a degree in mech engineering and now im a rocket scientist. went on an interview in Nov 04 and had a job offer for Jan 05.

Alot of places want you to have experience...so round ur soph/junior year u get internships...

its all about networking...

college isn't scary its hella fun... well engineering studying isn't that much fun but its such a small portion of your life...u might as well...

The best way to decide on a degree...determine where how u want to live (monetary wise) and then pick a job that pays in that tax bracket...
at 10 yrs old i wanted to be an archeologist...looked them up they made 33,000/yr... I knew then that i couldn't live offa that... lol..so figure out what your #1 passion is...then figure out ur #2 ...usually ur #2 is what makes more and go with that as a career...

i find this interesting. a large percentage of college graduates can't/don't get jobs in the field they majored in...im still in college as a law student, but im sure i'll have a job as an attorney. sometimes, college can be viewed as a waste of time because many employers prefer employees who actually had hands on experience..whereas with a college degree, all you do is sit in a classroom and learn/read about it...there is still debate about this...i find it interesting...are you in this situation?

I graduated in May 2006 with my degree in Chemical Engineering. It took me 3 months to find a job, but I couldn't be happier. It took a lot of hard work, but it definitely paid off. We decided to stay in the area, and we now own a house and 2 new cars!

I earned a certificate in human services last spring. I thought I could get a good job helping people.

Well, I am back to square one. I still work in a school as a babysitter.

Going to college can be a waste of time! I went to 5+ colleges and never graduated, landed a $80K/yr job.

Degree is just a picture showing you have completed college - thats all.
