ofcourse not sir, jailbreaking your ipod is as safe as installing 3rd party apps in your computer.Let's say while jailbreaking your ipod something goes wrong, you can UNDO it and restore your ipod to factory settings,It will be like taking it out of the box again. But let's say you have version 1.1.1 and you want to update it to 1.1.2 you need to go to the installer app and install the oktoprep package. What this does it prepares your ipod touch to update to 1.1.2 without undoing the hack.

The jailbreak opens your iPhone for full disk access and installs Installer.app so you can add pretty much any third party application you like.
it can be reset back to normal
