The category of cable referrers to the number of twists in the cable. The more twists, the less interference the send and receive pairs cause for each other. With less interference comes increased speed. Cat 3 is capable of handling 10Mb, Cat 5 100Mb, Cat 6 handles 1Gb over a longer distance then cat 5e. Considering your XBox 360 is using a broadband connection that is probably 10 Mb or less, cat 3 would be sufficient to run XBox Live. Anything more is just wasting money. Your bottle neck is going to be your internet connection, not the wire connecting your 360 to your switch.

Note that Chad's answer is over eight years old, which 10Mbps was sufficient back then; however, I recommend at least Cat 5 cables since your ISP (Internet Service Provider) more than likely provides you with more than 10Mbps. If you get Cat 3 cables (which I assume are obsolete) you will be throttling your own internet connection. Comcast just updated their networks to provide up to 75Mbps to Blast users. Therefore, a cable that can handle a higher speed such as Cat5 (can handle up to 100Mbps) or Cat5e (can handle up to 1Gbps) or even Cat6 (can handle up to 1Gbps over a longer distance and is faster than Cat5e) is almost a necessity in todays times.

CAT5 will work fine, CAT6 is similar but is just a little faster. No use spending the extra money on it.
