I am little self-centered, so I would like to inculcate goodness in the self first, which will have ripple effects on others for whom I am role-model e.g. my kid and friends etc. Though I am not concerned with the later, but it happens automatically. Don't "teach", but let others "learn" (which goes deeper) from what you are!

Sometimes, correcting oneself and being good can happen easily if one loves you, or the one who points out someone's faults or mistakes.
See for instance the psychoanalytic relationship of transference. If a lady patient loves her male analyst, for instance, the cure will happen in less time.
