Yes, it is annoying when someone continues to do something that you don't like, even after you correct them. However, they will find those constant corrections annoying and a bad habit that YOU have. If habits get bad enough then they can put a relationship in danger, this is one reason why it is important to know the people in our life. HOWEVER, one thing you have to do with those that you love is to forgive and forget.

It depends on the degree of your issue. If the person annoying you is just complaining that you don't put the toilet seat down after you use it then you might want to consider changing the way you do things to keep her happy. If they have a destructive habit like alcohol abuse then you do need to keep correcting them and keep trying. Eventually they are going to destroy themselves or listen to you.

At some point though you are going to find that the person may refuse to change and you will either have to accept that or you will have to leave them. It depends on the seriousness of the issue and don't forget that your constant reminding them of their problems is your annoying habit and a possible sign of your failure to accept reality (insanity).

But, I bet that Servant's husband puts the toliet seat down and when she kept telling him to do that she didn't consider it to be insane; "it is not such a big deal so put the toliet seat down after you use it." It is a matter of picking your battles and knowing when and what to fight over.

Follow teaching of Gita! You should always try to correct them as if it is your duty, but without any expectations. That way you will be able to continue your relations too.

I'd find it difficult to do so. To impose myself on a person like that. I'd be too much afraid of losing that person...

I don't 'correct' my husband like I am a superior. We are equals.
