there are different categories: neutrals (white, black, navy, brown, gray) match each other and most colors. Jewel tones (red, royal blue, burgundy, emerald green...) are great accents to any neutral or pastel piece, either as clothes or accessories. Pastels(pink, pale yellow, soft green, baby blue...) are safe and match each other and neutral colors.

First there are the neutrals. They are black, brown (any shade from tan to dark brown), white, and sometimes dark blue (in most cases). You can pair these colors with pretty much any other color included another neutral.
If you want a "safe" wardrobe, start with a neutral as a base and add colors from there. The majority of men's clothing includes neutral pants so the pants can be the base and then you add color for the shirts. Don't be afraid to wear more than one color on top. A dark wash pair of jeans, a lighter blue button up shirt, a camel cordaroy sports jacket and a blue pocket square is casual looks put together for a guy.
If you are looking for tie and shirt combinations, try going to the department stores and looking at the tie and shirt box sets or the shirt displays for ideas as to what colors are put together for men's fashions. They pay professionals to design those displays and you can't go wrong by just copying their look.

Black goes well with nearly everything, but maybe not dark brown. If you are dressing for a formal occasion, it is never a bad idea to stick to black and white. It's classic.
You should be safe if you use two shades of the same color, like navy blue and light blue.
Mybe even try looking at the paint samples you can get at the hardware store! haha : )

1] wear neutrals [navy, gray, black; or caramel, olive, espresso brown ] for pants, suits. Pants should fit in the butt and waist.
2] wear dress shoes and socks and belts that match pants
3] wear brights or pastels for tops [ Ts, shirts, sweaters, ties ] - more flattery to face
4] black goes well with most colors, especially bluish greens, blues, purples, grays, and black of course - not with brown or most tans
5] browns go well with reds, oranges, yellows, golds, yellow greens, tans, and browns - not with black or gray
6] white socks ONLY go with white sneakers - except at the gym [ ditto black with black, sandals with bare feet only ]
7] wear a nice, classic watch
8] keep yourself well groomed, and in good shape - you will look great!

colors that complimant your skin tone would be best. If your paleish than re earth colors, brown, green, blue. If you are tan go with pastels red, light green, yellow. If you are darker skinned go with light colors, and brighter colors. Also when you pick out shirts make sure they compliment you eye color, you dont have to have all of your shirts do this of course just some. When in doubt where jeans with any color top. hope that helped

Black matches anything and everything, except I wouldn't pair it with anything else black (black pants with a black shirt is a no go). Khaki works well and so do blue jeans. Basically, if you think you look goofy you probably do, so be careful.
