My girlfriend has been on birth control for the last 4 months, and everytime we've had sex we've used a condom, except about three times, but I never finished inside of her, and we only fooled around like that for like a few seconds before putting on a condom. She was supposed to have her period yesterday morning, but she didnt get it... she still hasnt got it and its aready the night after... she is on a thyroid medication which apparently may lower the effectivness of the pill. But we did have an accident a few months back where a condom broke but she still had her period a few weeks after... this is the second one since then. We're both really freaking out. We're going to get a test tomorrow, but Im just curious to see what your opinions of the chances are? I mean not only would it only have been pre but she is also on the pill... could she be late, for other reasons such as something simple like worrying about this?

Is she sure on the date of her expected period. I hardly ever get mine at the same time every month. It's normally within a 3 to 5 day radius. Some women are less regular than others. I would give it at least another week or two before getting all worried about it.

As for a test, if she is supposed to have just missed her period, it could be too early for a test to pick up an accurate answer. Although they claim to work this early, the stats are usually less than 80% accurate until around a week after the missed period. (It's in the fine print if you look on the box) I would wait at least another week before buying a test. They are expensive. If she still hasn't had her period in a week then you can worry and get a test. Good luck.

To put it less bluntly than Victoria - it COULD happen, it's not impossible, but:
The odds of pregnancy are very low in this situation.

First, the odds of getting pregnant on the pill are about 1 in 200. (Of 200 couples who use the pill for a year, one couple may end up pregnant.) A lot of those are from missing pills.

Next - The odds of getting pregnant while using condoms, or when not ejaculating "inside" are also very low. Usually you'd notice a condom leak. Also, usually the biggest risk from unprotected as you describe is from the man having an orgasm, but not cleaning "Mr Ed" properly (i.e. including a good pee to clean out the tubing) before putting it back in.

Finally - yes, cycles can vary. Stress can delay periods. Some women are more regular than others. Sometimes she can even skip a month. Only she knows how exact the schedule is.

I wouldn't get too worked up about it. I would say, go out and buy a lottery ticket, cuz your odds are better to win it than that she's pregnant.

There's the old joke that girls spend there teens terrified that they'll get pregnant from the least little activity, and then their 20's and 30's finding it's not that easy to get pregnant.

Doctors don't consider a couple to have fertility problems unless they've been going at it unprotected regularly for a year and still haven't conceived.

I doubt that she's pregnant. BC pills have side effects that include delaying/prolonging/shortening/increasing the frequency of menstrual cycles. Chances are it's just the pill acting up, but of course, go get it checked out.

Verry possible she IS pregnant. Birth Control and Condoms are not 100% even used together like me and my girlfriend. I wish you the best of luck. And as stated above.....Sex= Babies. I sure hope you are pro choice

I agree! Very succinct, Victoria.
That said - she's probably not pregnant. It could be she needs a change in her thyroid medication, or just a weird month.

even fooling around for a few seconds could cause it.
