hell to the no, i think the way they work the MVP candidates is dumb..
Dirk or Nash didn't do anything compare to what Kobe did the last 2 season..
They basically pick the best player in the best team..(The same thing happen when Charles Barkley was pick over jordan for the MVP in 1992-1993 season..)

I don't think he can win it this year. Considering the fact that he crumbled during the double overtime loss to the Suns (missed a freethrow that would have won the game) while former teammate Steve Nash flourished and delivered in the clutch, Steve is going to win the MVP this year. But hope is still alive for Dirk. The Suns and Mavericks will still meet again in the regular season (in Phoenix, I think) and Dirk should use that as a tool to get the advantage back. But it will be hard since Nash will also be doing everything to make sure that the MVP will go to him. So expect a very competitive game not only between the teams but also between these two MVP candidates.

Honestly, I don't believe Dirk deserved the award at all. Why because Dirk is playing in a team of all-stars!! Look at how good his teammates are, They are one of the worst underachievers in the sports especially when you look at their salaries they should have won multiple titles by now! I like the concept of picking out the MVP during Bill Russell's time, and mind if I quote NBA.com?
"Russell was voted the NBA Most Valuable Player for 1957-58. Oddly enough, he was only named to the All-NBA Second Team. In fact, during the five years that Russell was voted league MVP, only twice did he make the All-NBA First Team. The argument was that, while other centers were better than Russell -- that is, they had more conventional skills -- no player meant more to his team."
MVP - Most Valuable Player because no player meant more to his team.
Hope this helps.

The MVP award is a joke.
Basketball is a team game and you can't accurately measure how valuable a player is to a team.
This really got to me with the Steve Nash MVP. First of all there was the entire hyping of him making teammates better, as if he was the only MVP player to ever make his teammates better. Hmm, you think Shaq didn't make the team better when he joined?
By doing that, you're basically giving the award to the best player with the worse backup.
The other problem with the award is that it's voted on by members of the media. Their job is to write articles. What does the MVP award give them? The excuse to write up their own stories as to why so and so should be MVP.
Steve Nash has one it 2 years in a row, people are getting bored of us talking about him so much lets create an article about Dirk and watch as he gets bounced in the first round of the playoffs.
Michael Jordan has gotten the award too many times, lets give it to Malone and watch him choke in the finals against Jordan's team.
The NBA should go back to letting the players vote for the MVP, that will solve this MVP BS very quickly.

dirk should have gotten the mvp award last 2 years, when he bring the mavs to the nba finals... yes he deserves to be the mvp, mavs have the best rec last year and he's the best player of the team.. IMO he totally deserve it. atleast he bring the mavs to the finals unlike nashty...
ye's maybe he's been struggling this part of the season.. and the what he did in the playoffs is terrible.. but just remember that don nelson knows dirk more than anyone in the nba.. so he knows what to do on dirk... the problem is that the other players didnt step up when dirk is having a hard time...
i know that his mvp stats will be back before the allstar break.. actually i think its getting back already... when i watched the mavs game.. he knows when to step up.. he's ppg maybe down but the apg is going up.... now he shows that he's a versatile player.. and he is the mvp...

Basketball is a team sport like baseball and there really isn't an MVP becasue even the smallest contribution to winning is magnified by the fact you're on a winning team. PEACE!

Hey look just because he played badly in a playoff serie doesn't decrease his quality.Just look at how they play without the german scoring machine.I witnessed that when dirk was out in the NBA finals,I witnessed the least unexciting basketball in the world.Without nowitzki,I don't believe that they can get up to NBA finals.

No he didnt deserve it, it should have went to Nash yet again. Dirk did have an amazing regular season, but he wasnt as important to his team as Nash was IMO.

Yes , because it covers the regular season, not the playoffs. So his complete and utter meltdown does not count.
