One cigarette is not going to harm your child in the long run. It is long-term smoking during pregnancy that causes risk for miscarriage, preterm birth, and small birthweight, etc.

I do not blast women for their cigarrette habit. I know how hard it is to quit. However, consider asthma meds. Two puffs is a common treatment of an inhaler. Within 20 minutes, it is in your bloodstream. Some of that ultimately gets to the fetus.

Will it hurt the embryo/fetus? Probably not, so don't get your knickers in a bunch. Smoking is primarily associated with low birth weight because it causes the vessels to narrow, restricting circulation. If you fallen off the wagon while trying to quit, don't beat yourself up. Just pick yourself up off the floor and try again. Most smokers quit 7-9 times before they actually succeed.

any amount should be considered dangerous..I have smoked for 14 yrs...but during my pregnancies I stopped for the health of my babies..which is the most important...they depend on you to do the right thing...being a good parent starts during pregnancy...go to your search bar and type smoking during pregnancy...you'll get so many links that you should look at...these are by proffesionals...it causes problems for us and does the same for your baby...would you hand a 2 yr old a cig.to smoke?No...and ppl usually don't stop at one
and to PREGO BABY BOY.....where in the world did you find your doctor...why give such stupid advice....my sister smoked during pregnancy and my nephew had low birth weight...and a heart mur mur which has been linked to smoking..he also has asthma...how would you feel if some awful health problem could've been avoided for your baby...if only you had stopped for as little as 9 months....PREGO AGAIN...there is something wrong with you....you lack the commen sense God gave us...not to be rude...but ppl like you is why sooooo many babies get hurt in pregnancy...your child was a lucky one...that doesn't mean the next baby or someone elses baby will be so lucky

Are you just wanting one, or already had one, whats the deal? If you're a smoker and you're just saying "just one more" ...I'd hold off until you've had the baby... cigarettes can cause low birth weight and such... But if you've had one, or have been a smoker previously, the sooner you quit the better your baby will be. I don't personally think its tragic to smoke during pregnancy, as I know friends that have, and have perfectly healthy children... but why risk it? It also increases the risk of miscarriage that early in pregnancy... so if you ARE a smoker and absolutely cannot quit, try to cut waqy down atleast... we realize that sometimes its harder for the mother to quit during pregnancy, and can cause problems within the stress area too, which is also bad for baby... but if you can, quit... good luck

7 weeks wow your little one is developing lungs and his/her brain is growing 1/4 larger this week alone. Vital crucial development is going on in there. 7 weeks is a very important point in your babies development. Every smoke you have restricts blood flow to your baby and can retard development. Don't do it! You want that little one to have the best possible chance right? Your doctor likely offers great smoking cessation programs I would totally be checking out. It may be hard but it'll be easier than living with a lifetime of what if I hadn't had that smoke.

*When you smoke, the chemicals from cigarette smoke get into your unborn baby's blood so your unborn baby gets 25% less oxygen, does not grow properly and is less healthy.
*The placenta joins mom and baby - food and oxygen go from Mom's blood to baby through the placenta. Nicotine can cross the placenta thereby decreasing blood flow to the fetus and affecting the fetal cardiovascular system, gastrointestinal system and central nervous system. Pregnant smokers have placentas that do not work as well as they could.
*Every time you have a cigarette, your baby gets less food and oxygen.
*Babies of smokers are more likely to be born prematurely.
*Babies of smokers do not grow as well as they could due to the carbon monoxide. This results in a baby with low birth weight.

If you just found out you're pregnant, don't worry too much, just make sure to stop right away. Allot of women drink and smoke before they find out about their pregnancy......including me. Because I have a very regular period I knew I was pregnant right away and stopped the drinking and smoking immediately. I am 7 months along and doing great.

Congrats on your pregnancy!

It probably won't hurt because smoking is related to low birth weight and baby has plenty of time to grow, but why take anymore chances?

Don't smoke. It's so disgusting. I think it's as nasty gross as picking your nose or greasy hair. You have no idea how bad you smell to everyone around you (like when you walk into a restaurant or store). I bet people are making faces behind you back, and you have no idea.

Please quit for your baby!

Well in theory, smoking at all is harmfull to the baby. In real life you've probably done nothing to effect it in any direction. There are many women who smoke their entire first trimester because they never realized that they are pregnant. From everything that I've read you can forgive yourself for everything you did before you realized your are pregnant (such as smoke, drink, or taking no-no meds such as asprin) as long as you quit from then on out.
