(x + 2) / 6 = (x - 1) / 12
2(x + 2) = (x - 1)
2x + 4 = x - 1
x = - 5

(x+2)/6 = (x-1)/12
multiply both sides by 12 to get rid of the denominators
2(x+2) = x-1
2x+4 = x-1
2x-x = -1 - 4
x = -5

(x + 2) / 6 = (x - 1) / 12 ............. multiply both sides by 6
(x + 2) = 6(x - 1) / 12 ................ multiply both sides by 12
12(x + 2) = 6 (x - 1) .................. move a term to the other side
12(x + 2) - 6(x - 1) = 0 .............. expand
12x + 24 -6x + 6 = 0 ................ simplify
6x + 30 = 0
6x = - 30
x = -5

X+2 = X-1
------ ------ cross multiply
6 12
12X +24 = 6X - 6
-6X -24 -6x -24 subtract 6X and 24 from both sides
6X = -30
---- ----- divide by 6
6 6
X = -5
