So you are saying we don't have freedom of speech because "assassins will probably come to your house in a few hours". Yet you just posted your charge against Bush in this very public forum.

Either I am wrong and you are dead or you have just proven that we do indeed have freedom of speech...

Freedom of speech means you won't be jailed for expressing an opinion.

Reprimands occur only in certain situations. For instance, in school, expressing yourself in some cases can be a disruptive influence. In the workplace, expressing yourself can be disruptive. In social events, say what you want. And if your friends disagree with you, THEY will reprimand you - but there, it is personal and not governmental.

Freedom of speech is not absolute, because there is the precedent from decades ago that says you can even yell 'fire' in a crowded theater - but you must face the consequences of your action. Because freedom of speech, though guaranteed in the constitution, is not without penalty.

If you contradict GWB in some circles in the USA, you are a hero. The assassins would be private, not from the US Government. GWB, dumb as a stump though he might be, is way too smart to have someone killed AFTER that person has made negative public remarks.

See, the key is that you have misunderstood the meaning of the term. You have legally guaranteed freedom of speech - but NOT socially guaranteed freedom of speech. It is the latter that sometimes reaches out and grabs you. ... but hint: It also means that if you get reprimanded a lot, you are hanging with the wrong crowd.

> When you say anythin offensive you are reprimanded.

You were free to say it and they were free to say somethign in response. "They" don's ay only "you" have freedom of speech, everyone does.

> And no-one likes to be insulted.

And so they are free to respond.

> If you contradict George Bush in PUBLIC to an entire town, assasins will probably come to your house in a few hours.

You just accused the President of operating hit squads on perceived enemies, and you think you re not free to say whatever you want?

> So what is this so-called Freedom of Speech?

You are free to say or claim whenever you want short of inciting danger to the public (such as yelling fire in a theater when it is not true)

Others are free to listen and respond as they see fit within the same small limitations.

They don't have to like what you say and vice versa, but you both get to say it.

That is freedom of speech.

With freedom of speech comes responsibility. It means you are free to express your thoughts and opinions...it doesn't mean you can yell "FIRE" in a crowded theater.

There is a line where "freedom of speech" can become inappropriate. You must be mature enough to know the difference.

Freedom of Speech only means the gov't cannot keep you from voicing your opinion. With freedom comes responsibility, so you take the responsibility for what you say.

1. you're an idiot.
2. Freedom of Speech *ONLY* concerns itself with government stifling the speech of it's citizens. Nothing more.

The fact that you, having written this, haven't been killed by assasins yet is proof that you are wrong.
