I have just switched Unions, as a new member I have been sent the latest magazine which has the salaries of the main bods, they are earning an absolute fortune!!! All paid from members, is a wonder they have anything left for the rank and file. That is why Unions have gone into loads of other money making fields, eg insurance, loans etc. When Maggie T removed their teeth they knew they would have to protect their golden goose, so they chose diversity over solidarity to save their own skins. So much for working for the working man!
I was a Union "rep" for a while, I was disgusted by the amount of money that was sent to obscure foreign "appeals" the amount claimed on "expenses" the time taken off from work to attend useless seminars, debates and conferences. How the only real interest shown was in those cases that required the "on retainers" solicitors to appear in court. The whole system is corrupt, the founding fathers of the Labour movement will be spinning in their graves seeing what the Union of Workers has become. I am a great believer in "one small voice is better than silence" but this insiduous mis-representation of the worker in favour of a huge wage by their so called leaders is an abomination in my view.

Depends on the Union.

In most cases, though, a LOT more money than any of their members could ever dream of.

The CA prison guards officials, as an example, get their full salary as prison guards - even though they don't have to go to work - PLUS union salaries of up to $165,000 plus expenses. The president makes an estimated $250,000 a year, but the union has been fighting making the actual number public.

Add to that the fact that the taxpayers of the State of California will pay them pensions when they retire based on the sum of their State salaries PLUS their union salaries.
