I work hard at a job and take night classes. I have been rewarded for my work by a 35% raise over the past three years. I am in the process of starting my own business on the side. I save my money and invest in the stock market.
Follow up question, despite all this I have horrible health care from my company and have not been able to find an affordable health for myself. Don't I deserve better health care?

A couple of follow up comments,
If you are paying 35% of your check in taxes you need a better accountant. I and my wife make over $100,000 a year with both incomes and investments. We pay less then 25% in taxes fed, state, local, ss, etc.
Also I have several friends that are Israeli, they claim that their health care is much better then the US and they have universal health care.
Finally, I agree with many of the Republicans core beliefs of fiscal conservancy. Two reasons that I am a Democrat. A. I believe in birth control. B. Under Reagan, Bush Sr, and Bush W the deficit has increased from 2 trillion to nearly 10 trillion due to unchecked spending.

I'm with you. I did the same thing back in early 2000 (job and classes). On top of that I served my country with 8 years in the Air Force. As a result, I work hard, was promoted to management, and own 51% of a business. The end result is I am educated and earn a wage that puts me in the upper middle class income range. I am socially liberal and don't believe the government needs to be peeking in our windows but I do believe they can help those who are temporarily unable to help themselves so I vote democrat. I am not one of the needy but I know that given the choice of volunteering to help the needy, the majority of the public would let them starve. This is why I don't mind paying a couple of pennies on the dollar to make sure that the needy get some help. NOT because I espouse Communist views. And to answer the health care question. Universal health care is not socialism any more than employer based health care or group life insurance is. It is just part of a much bigger group. We already use company payroll deduction to cover our benefits. Having Uncle Sam tax us for health care instead of our employers will most likely increase our net pay as a national universal plan should cost far less to the individual than the typical HMO/PPO plan.

The ignoramuses use scare tactics and extreme rhetoric to keep unthinking followers brainwashed. They think if you're not a right-winger that we like Castro, Chavez, and Stalin. It's really stupid and anyone who enjoys serious debate doesn't resort to black and white thinking like that.
So, just take what they say with a grain of salt. They are truly ridiculous and if the majority of the country thought the way they do, we'd become like a 3rd world dictatorship. Extremes are not the way to go. I hope you find some health insurance, and if the gov't could negotiate with health care providers to get lower prices for medications, we'd have a healthier society, but the blindfolded nutcases like Rush Limbaugh keep preaching that quality would go down. They really just want to support the price gouging of the current system of insurance companies, drug companies, and hospitals. And they don't even know why. I guess it makes them feel strong to kiss booty to the hotshots involved.

Wow, good job. Keep going that way and eventually you'll come to resent giving your money to the government, getting little in return as it goes out to subsidize those who pay little or no taxes. I know it didn't take my wife long. She was as liberal as they come, but as soon as she started making a decent salary and saw how much was being taken out of her pay check with nothing to show for it, she got pretty conservative pretty quickly.
And, I'll grant you, health care is a problem. But the democrats don't have the solution. All they're looking at is how to pay for it. No one is looking at the cost. And until we get a handle on cost, it's not going to be reasonable for anyone. And yet of all of their plans to pay for it, it's folks like you who they will be looking to. You think insurance is expensive? Just wait. I've lived in nations with socialized medicine and I will gladly pay the $1,400 a month I pay now for insurance over the significantly more I'd end up paying in taxes under a government scheme. Bottom line, with small changes in insurance law and a realistic view of what medical care is appropriate, the COST of medical care and the supporting insurance an be reasonable. Problem is, everyone HAS a Ford, but everyone WANTS a Cadillac and if you're going to be passing out Cadillacs to all Americans with only a few footing the bill, you'll quickly come to miss the good old days of low taxes and expensive insurance.
So good luck with your career. I look forward to welcoming you soon to the ranks of conservative America.

The problem is not with The Government running healthcare or not, it's with HMO's and PPO's (middlemen). Once this country decides to go back to a doctor/patient relationship and assume responsibilty for costs, the problem will correct itself. But to say the government could do a better job handling it is non sensical. The fact is, they are partly responsible for the fiasco we are currently facing (mandated insurance requirements for corporations / creating HMO's). Understand this, everything the government sticks their hands in gets screwed up. Take a look at Social security.

ALL Republicans don't think that. Most Americans don't truly stereotype others that way.
My mother is a democrat and very liberal. She is not lazy or a communist. She has always worked hard to raise her family in a very loving way, and although she has never needed to work thanks to my father's income, she has always volunteered at the local hospital, VFW and Red Cross.
I am conservative. While we may disagree on most things political, I recognize that she is an intelligent, kind and wonderful woman whom I admire tremendously.
And as to your follow-up question, everyone deserves to have affordable healthcare.

You absolutely deserve health care, the kind of high-quality, low cost health care that has been considered a basic right in more civilized countries for decades.
They call you communist and lazy because
a. They have no idea what "communist" really means and
b. The first rule of illogical engagement: when you can't find fault with an idea or position, insult the character of the person who advocates it.

Most likely the same reason the Democrats think the Republicans are communists and lazy? I just wish the would work together and come up with a good health plan and work for our country, not fight with each other.

Why are you assuming that Republicans think all Democrats are Communists and lazy. You are a middle of the road Democrat who thinks for himself and I don't think you are Communist and lazy. Therefore your assumption is flawed since I am a Republican and I don't think that. Always remember, a young man who doesn't vote democrat has no heart. An old man who doesn't vote republican has no head. You sound like you are transitioning away from the Democrat spiel about Republican assumptions. Good for you with your business and good luck.

Reagan started this sort of rhetoric in the late 70's. It is a myth, of course.
In those days it was created to capture the southern male democratic "conservative" vote. A wedge based on race, and, religious convictions.
It worked, and, like the red scare tactics, never really went away, though, we live in a different era with new challenges!
