It doesn't have to do with how much you have in your bank account. It has to do with how long you have been using the standard credit card with a line credit of $500+. The longer you are with the creditor, the good chance you'll get a gold card with a larger line of credit. Does that help?

With Coutts bank, to have a gold card, you had to have a least a £1 million on deposit in cash.
It may have changed now.
