Read Guns, germs and Steel.

Because they live on an island, the Haitians lack diversity, in people, animal and foods.

Then read Collapse of Civilizations.

Cheers and Good luck!

Haiti is mountainous with a lot of oceanfront. That means it is vary hard to get around in Haiti, for goods to travel from place to place. Even in a country as small as Haiti, there are multiple dialects from the isolation. Fishing is a way of life for a lot of people. And it being an island make imports very expensive.

Get on Google Earth and zoom in on Haiti. Specifically, notice the border of Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

The combination of soil, climate and trade winds creates what's called "The Reggae Effect". It makes people create drums out of old steel barrels, braid their hair in odd ways, smoke dope and talk funny. Fortunately, the effect has remained fairly localized and hasn't become widespread in other parts of the world.

Researchers at John Hopkins hospital have been working on a vaccine to prevent the spread and expect it to become available within the next two years. Since the vaccine will eradicate the Raggae Effect for future citizens, National Geographic has funded an expidition to seek out and photograph stoned individuals and record the stories of these people. The hope to create kind of a Rossetta Stone that will allow future generations of filmakers to accurately translate and subtitle old movies with raggae cameos. This is considered of cultural importance since within the next 25 years all raggae victims are expected to be either dead or too old to "raggae all night long", thus becoming as dead as the do-do bird.

The wildly painted Hatian houses are expected to become as precious as the Cro-Magnon cave paintings in France. In fact, the French want all vaccine research halted since they figure they might be able to make a buck off the deal by selling rastifarian hats at the Eiffel Tower souvenir shop. Their last venture failed when it was realized that European and foreign tourists weren't interested in buying and wearing rubber "Bubba the Neanderthal" teeth.
