My friends at work each bought me a christmas gift, and as much as I want to buy them something I have no money to. I feel so bad. Does anyone have any ideas that I can show them my graditude and I won't feel so bad about the situation.

write them a nice thank you note with a promise to help with something like...if they have kids offer to babysit while they have a night out to themselves...if they go out of town offer to housesit (or at least water plants, walk the dog and bring in mail daily)..maybe they are redecorating and could use help painting...gardening ( help pull some weeds in the spring time...maybe you can cut/style hair or give great manicures

offer your time because you dont have the money to buy a gift.
you will be helping alot and building on your freindship!

If you'll have money after Christmas, make some vouchers either handmade or off the PC saying that you will buy them a free drink or something like that after Christmas.

Otherwise, just talk to them and say that you really cannot afford to buy anything this year and ask them if they mind - which I am very sure they will not.

If you haven't already given cards, just make really nice, funny, personal ones for each of them to show that you've made an effort. Or make some cool biscuits or cakes. If you can afford some pretty tissue paper or gauze and some ribbon you could wrap them up individually and make them look brilliant - I'd love it if someone did that for me! Or if you know them very well, invite them round for a girlie night with DVDs and snacks.

Don't feel bad - many of us are in the exact same situation!

I dont know if this is right or not but my mom got really ticked off one year someone bought me a christmas gift and my mother made me give it back and i told her how bad I felt about doing that . she then told me you never accept a christmas gift without giving a gift in return if you cant do that then you simply give the gift back . Maybe she was old fashioned or just being jealous or ugly . My mom was like that . maybe you could bake them cookies or fudge or something like that . good luck and merry christmas .

The presents folks are giving you are about their appreciation of you and doesn't actually require a gift in return. That being said, few of us can escape without feeling the need to give a little something. Can you bake? If so, you might make a batch of cookies and divvy them up and leave a little package of cookies at people's desks. That way you don't have to feel bad about it and they have a sweet treat from you.

You're not alone! Write them all a heart felt thank you note. If you can score some pretty stationary, that will be a plus. If your budget won't fit that in, then just ordinary paper will do just fine. Make sure to include in your thank you note of how much you appreciate thier thoughtfullness and how useful the gift will be, etc. If they're truly your friends, they'll understand your situation and appreciate the fact that you are willing to thank them in some form. After all, Christmas isn't about giving and recieving gifts. It's about Jesus.

Cookies and candy are fine gifts but some people don't need or want them for health reasons. There are many free gifts out there if you feel you must reciprocate but my all time favorite is time. Give of yourself and your time to the person and it will last forever in their minds not on their hips.

if you can make a homemade treat like fudge or marshmallow treats or a pan of brownies or christmas cookies ! whatever you make really good it is the thought that counts and tell them all thank you again for their thoughtfulness.people love home made goodies!!!! if you are not a good baker or cook just buy some donuts or cookies already made it really doesn't matter! MERRY CHRISTMAS!

How about baking some cookies or some tasty treats?
Everybody loves holiday snacks, especially homemade!
Rice Crispy treats come to mind - and it's easy to make.
(Use Cheerios instead of Rice Crispies - it's awesome!)

Good Luck Hun -

It is Christmas! You should not feel "obligated" to buy a gift for someone. It is a shame that it has come to this. I would just say, "oh my god.....that is so sweet,,,, thank you so much....I didn't get you guys anything" this year has been tough for me......then, when things settle down, take them to lunch.
