The bill passed the Legislature largely along party lines, with controlling Democrats supporting the abolition and minority Republicans opposed. Republicans had sought to retain the death penalty for those who murder law enforcement officials, rape and murder children, and terrorists, but Democrats rejected that.

"Easy cases make for bad laws"

Sure, he's a miserable low-life who deserves to die.

But think back a few years to the "Central Park Jogger" case. The four black teenagers who were convicted of raping her, beating her almost to death, and leaving her in a frozen ditch to die were - in the opinions of almost the entire population of New York - also miserable low-lifes who deserved to die. There was great public outcry when the DA allowed them to plead guilty and take plea bargains that resulted in them all spending less than ten years in prison.

But...... Years later, AFTER they all served their time and were released, someone else bragged that he actually committed the crime. Despite the DA's objections, the courts actually found him credible enough to order DNA testing.

Surprise! He was telling the truth. The kids all pled guilty because the DA told them that if they didn't, he'd have them put in the General Population at State prison, where they could expect to be gang-raped to death.

How happy would the death penalty advocates be if they'd all four been executed before being exonerated?

Just in the last five years the Innocence Project alone has obtained exonerations by DNA evidence for over 200 people falsely convicted of rape or murder. Since DNa evidence only even exists to be tested in about 5% of cases, we can never know how many people are on death row for crimes they never committed.

Just last year Texas executed a man for murdering a store clerk during a robbery based ONLY on the testimony of a woman who saw him from over 100 feet away across a dark parking lot in the rain. Nine people, including a pastor, told the police that he was at a church meeting 50 miles away at the time of the robbery, but the DA pursuaded the jury to ignore them all because they were his friends.

Get your facts straight. The law bans the death penalty, so the murderers get life in prison. There are no parole boards for these people.
Hell, it even says this in the site you cite to.
Maybe you should read the article before you decide what it says and then complain about it.
But hey, that wasn't your point. You just wanted to make an outrageous statement and get people to react.

It's about time. By the way, using a dead little girl in order to make a political point is pretty low.

Of course.

Parole hearings are part of the due process to which we are all entitled.

Aren't you ashamed and feeling un-American for suggesting otherwise?
