have replaced the rack and pinion cylinder

As previously stated it could be a strut, cv joint, swaybar mount bushings (very common problem), or swaybar end links (another very common problem).

Flagged all the shock answers- oh that was all of them!!!!!

CV Joint- Nigh on impossible

Strut- unlikely

Ball Joint- Unlikely

Strut Bearing(cap on top that allows turning)- much more likely.

Sway bar End Link- Extremely likely- NAPA has the best replacements and you will believe once you take one off.(hahahahhahahahahahahaha)

Loose Spare Tire- Extremely Likely(I get 2 a week so don't scoff)

Check you're sway bar links at the control arms. If they are the ball and socket type, that's probably where the noise is coming from.

As karken19 said could be a shock or CV joint, could also be the strut or sway bar bushing.
