I need to up my display memory and I heard you can do it using BIOS. I found the BIOS page but where do I go to change the memory?

No "Just buy a new graphics card" answers! If I see one of those I will know you didn't pay attention and you will receive a thumps-down! You have been warned . . .

Thanks!

Apparently I was told wrong. Thanks for the info. Thumps up because, even though you said the forbidden phrase, you at least read the entire question.

Look for the adjustment in the Advanced Chipset Features, something that indicates VGA control.

You can usually maximize shared memory if you have large RAM installed. If RAM is just 512mb, large shared memory for graphics would leave a small RAM for OS and applications, thus severely slowing down the PC.

Integrated graphics like Intel's GMA950 uses Dynamic Video Memory Technology or DVMT. Your only choice of settings is 1mb or 8mb. That is the initial shared memory under 2D mode. DVMT automatically adjusts the size of shared memory under 3D mode like in games.

Graphic memory is not as upgradable as it was 10 years ago. you used to be able to jsut by a 1/2 mg memory chip and snap it in. now days video cards are in the 256/512mb+ size and they are basically buy them and that is what you get, period.

Your options are, if you have a card that is upgradable, buy memory for that card and install it.

Or, sorry,,,,, buy a new card.

Unless this is an on board video card that you are using, the BIOS has absolutely nothing to do with the video card at all and there is not, nor has there even been, a setting in any BIOS that you can just change to get more memory.
