Bug's ear...means something is really cute.

Wind blows...means the person understands the situation.

Murphy's Law...whatever can go wrong, will go wrong.

No dice...no go, won't happen, can't do it

Off the record...literally, it means a statement isn't being reported..If I tell a reporter something "off the record", they are supposedly agreeing not to use that information.

Pull the wool over his eyes...fool him, trick him.

Rule of thumb...again, literally at some time, the length of the thumb was used as a standard unit of measurement. Now, it means an unwritten guideline.

Till the cows come home...late...the cows come home late. I don't know if they really do, but if I say I'm staying out until the cows come home, I mean I'll be late.

Top notch...the best, top drawer, A-1.

PS...since this is ENGLISH homework, "What DO these sayings mean?"

Cute as a bugs ear - Something is very cute
Know which way the wind blows - To be able to predict the future, and understand what is happening when things are changing
Murphys law - If anything can go wrong, it will
No dice - Refusing to accept a proposal (not neccesarilly marriage)
off the record - Something said in confidence (If during an interview the person being interviewed did not want something they said to be published they would say "off the record)
pull the wool over his eyes - to decieve or mislead
rule of thumb - a rule made of practical logic, not scientific
till the cows come home - for a long time

Hope that helps.
If not good luck.
top notch
