i udated my pc from a windows xp home to a windows xp pro, after this process realised that the sound wasn't working, i tried to add the hardware throgh the trobleshoot, but it failed to work, i tried to find my cd drivers to see if icould reinstall it that way, but again failed as i couldn't find them. Has anyone got a ansewer to my probled?

Download a copy of the chipset and soundcard drivers from the website of the motherboard or PC maker. You need all of those drivers for your PC to work properly.
