Ignore the B*tch. She will not cooperate, therefore, your ex won't either.
Here's what you do:
Contact the lawyer, and by petitioning for the divorce, the lawyer will automatically try to serve your ex papers. They will do a "background check" on him, with last known address and phone #, and place of employment. They'll be able to track him.... you don't need his social, and you especially don't need to contact him.
The only tricky part is getting the actual divorce. In my state (SC) automatic divorce can only be awarded in the event of
a. domestic violence (documented)
b. adultery
c. legal, one-year separation
So, just get your documentation together proving you've been separated for that long, and/or the other two (depending on your state's laws), and go after that bastard. BUT, DO NOT contact any more. He can use that in court to show solicitation and harassment, then your case might not go well on your end.
Good luck!!!

What? HIS girlfriend doesn't want you to get divorced? Odd. You file in the county in which you live and have him served. It doesn't take two to get the party started. You file, he gets served, he has so many days to respond, if he doesn't the divorce proceeds w/out him. If he does respond then the divorce proceeds. Either way, I don't get why its so difficult.

My dear, all you have to do is file for a divorce and he will be served. All you have to do is give his name and address..The courts will set a day for the divorce to be finalized. Thats all you have to do, you don't have to have a S.S.N.. Its fairly simple, a whole lot more simple than getting married in the first place. . . .

why would his girlfriend not want him to get divorced? Have you talked to your lawyer to see if there is something that can be done. that sounds very strange to me.

You don't need her or him, just go to an attorney and file. All they need to know is where they can find him (address) so they can serve him his papers. Good luck! : )
